He is known for his dramatic and comedic parts and is considered to be to be an American iconic cultural figure. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, California, to Janet Marylyn a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks, an traveling cook. His mother was named "Fraga" while his father was English. Tom was born into an "fractured family". He has no acting experience at the college level and credits the fact that he could not be cast in a university play with actually starting his career.
